Today was a 180-mile ride in the saddle. I left after my interview this morning, which was really just me desperately trying to woo this girl into nudging her manager to interview me. By the end, I did get her to agree to talk to her manager—but man, did she make me work for it!

I rode down the southern portion of Joshua Tree, where the Colorado Desert meets the Mojave Desert. The Colorado Desert is much less scenic, but its claim to fame (for me) is the Cholla Cactus Garden. Unfortunately, the garden was under maintenance, so I could only observe from the perimeter. From there, I rode out of the park to Box Canyon. My pictures never do it justice, so here’s a YouTube video that captures it better.

On the ride back, my back was killing me—clear signs I’m no longer as young as I like to think I am. Still, I’m happy as a clam. Jamming to ’90s music, riding my motorcycle through my favorite park—what more could a 40-year-old man ask for?
