Exploring Oaxaca (Part 10)

By Simon J. Lau

This morning, our host introduced us to his birds. He had several of them, but the nicest one was named Carlito (featured here). So far, this old man may challenge me for our love of animals. Besides these birds and the spider monkey he’s babysitting, he also has two dogs that he rescued from the streets.

In the afternoon, we had lunch. When ordering, I realized I made a mistake and it reminded me why taking metric to imperial conversions seriously in high school chemistry is so important. I forgot that it’s 2.2 pounds per kg, not the other way around. I inadvertently ordered 2.2 lbs of carnitas when I intended to order only 1 lb. 😅 At least now we have more for dinner, and maybe some for tomorrow!

Finally, I saw Jean pull out her cat lady human powers. There was a cat at the bottom of a large hill, and Jean started calling to it. A moment later, I saw the cat behind us. Jean literally convinced this stray cat to climb up the hill to come visit her. I was impressed.
