Exploring Oaxaca (Part 13)

By Simon J. Lau

It’s our last day in Oaxaca! This morning, we enjoyed breakfast at the mercado. We ordered another hot cocoa and bread, a favorite of ours now. As we were leaving, we also bumped into the chef who served us at Yu Ne Nisa (our favorite restaurant in Oaxaca)! She recognized us. It turns out her daughter was there too (in the background working). She wasn’t as interested in saying hello though. 😅

Later, we visited Monte Albán. Situated on a hilltop overlooking the city of Oaxaca, it’s an ancient archaeological site that served as the capital of the Zapotec civilization. Known for its expansive layout featuring large ceremonial plazas, pyramids, and intricate stone carvings. Despite the scorching heat, Jean and I explored all the pyramids, even climbing to the top of one. It’s truly impressive, to say the least.

Finally, for our last night, we’re celebrating with my new glow-in-the-dark bulldog shirt, esquites 🌽, and ice cream (not pictured). Adios, Oaxaca. It was fun! Until next time.
