Baja Bound 2023 (Part 6)

By Simon J. Lau

I spent today exploring Loreto. It was a former provincial and state capital, but now it’s known as a cultural center and tourist destination. It’s also a Pueblo Mágico, designated by the federal government as a culturally significant town in Mexico. There are two others in Baja, including Tecate and Todos Santos.

The most significant thing I did today was eat. Between piling on many miles in the saddle and grappling with finding hotels open during Easter weekend, I feel that this is the first time I’ve been able to actually enjoy the seafood since crossing the border. 🍤 🐠 More to come!

With the end of Holy Week, all the domestic travelers returned home. So today, I was the only one at the restaurant (a well-rated one at that). My server/bartender pointed out that I’m lucky, “You get the whole restaurant and the bartender to yourself!” 😅

Naturally, I struck up a conversation with him. We talked about motorcycling, specifically the cultural differences in how Mexicans and Americans use motorcycles, the safety equipment they wear, and the types of motorcycles they ride. 🏍️ A good way for me to end the night.
