Baja Bound 2023 (Part 7)

By Simon J. Lau

Today, I visited Isla Coronado. This island, and the surrounding region, is a protected area and is home to many sea lions, birds, and other plants and wildlife. In fact, we saw a ton of sea lions. The water was also unbelievably clear and warm enough to swim in.

On my tour, there were two groups: A Mexican-American couple from LA, and a Filipino family. The Mexican couple was very cute. They had been married for 40 years, and when I asked them what their secret was, Sal (the husband) said, “I never argue. Patty is always right.” 😅

The Filipino family was also interesting. I thought they were a group of friends, but one of the girls was their mom. When I found this out, I asked the mom, “When did you have your first girl? When you were 12?” She responded, “When I was 10, and I adopted her when she was 8.” 😅 The mom looked very young for her age. (Mother is second to the right.)

I also got a really bad sunburn on my arms and legs. 🌞 Fortunately, not on my face, since I religiously applied sunscreen to it. 🧴Now I’ll be applying aloe all over myself to alleviate the sting.

Finally, I made it to this seafood grill restaurant that I’ve been turned away from twice (the first time they closed early for Easter Sunday, and the next time they were closed on Monday). It hit the spot. I was excited for the clams, but surprisingly, the taco was particularly juicy. 9/10 🤤
