Baja Bound 2023 (Part 15)

By Simon J. Lau

Today, I bid farewell to Rancho Espinoza (first photo) and returned to Guerrero Negro (second photo) so that I could go whale watching mañana. 🐋 It wasn’t a particularly long trip (less than 100 miles), but this corridor, for whatever reason, has very strong winds. In fact, when I arrived at Guerrero Negro, it was still very windy (third photo).

For lunch, I tried a little taco stand near my place called Birrieria Brianda. The waitress recommended something called the “Super Donkey,” and I couldn’t resist. Also, notice the retro Elvis clock in the background. I loved the decor.

I should add, since coming to Mexico, I’ve gotten very good at cleaning my clothes in the sink and air drying them, anywhere. The heavy-duty metal clothespins and portable washing rack have been game changers. I’ll never bring more clothes than I need for a trip.

I’ve also (temporarily) adopted this stray dog tonight (and maybe tomorrow). I found him wandering the complex, shared some of my breakfasts with him, and gave him water. (If you’re wondering, the third photo in this section is what my normal breakfast in Mexico looks like.) I’ve named him Renegade.

Finally, my route from San Ignacio to Guerrero Negro (150 km or 93 miles).
