Mandarin Immersion (Part 11)

By Simon J. Lau

For my last day in Wuhan, I visited Yellow Crane Tower. This structure has existed in some form or another since AD 223. From the top of the building, you can get an expansive view of Wuhan’s downtown cityscape and of the Yangtze River.

In the afternoon, rain came down really hard, and my friends from yesterday decided to stay indoors. That didn’t stop me. I spent my last night exploring new neighborhoods and enjoying street food. I love the street food here and I’d come back again for more!

Lastly, my hotel deserves 5 stars! Not only was my room affordable and of high quality, but the service was exceptional too! The housekeeping staff noticed my laundry pile and left a handwritten note informing me about the available washing machine for guests. Now, my clothes are fresh and clean! 🧼

I should mention, I couldn’t read the handwritten note on my own. While I can read texts, deciphering stylized handwriting is a challenge for me. Fortunately, I asked the front desk to interpret it for me, and that’s how I found out about the washing machine!
